We shocked them at Dreamforce

~ 2 min read · Tony Melvin

A furniture retailer walked up to our booth on the first morning of Dreamforce with a problem their current point of sale couldn’t solve. Four hours later, they were watching a working demo of the answer.

They were looking for a POS that would allow for custom selection at checkout. After a brief overview, we made them an offer: “We’ll build you a demo using our new StoreConnect AI tools. Come back in a few hours.”

From booth conversation to working demo in four hours

Four hours later, the retailer came back and we showed them this:

We didn’t show them slides or a mock-up. They saw a working point of sale built around their own requirement, using the same StoreConnect AI tools now available to our customers and partners.

When every sale is a custom order, a standard register gets in the way

Furniture rarely sells off the shelf. A customer might choose a sofa, then pick the fabric, the finish and the leg style before they pay. Many point-of-sale systems are built for fixed products with a single barcode, so those choices end up on paper notes, in a separate spreadsheet or in a salesperson’s memory.

That gap creates rework. The order has to be re-keyed into another system, details get missed and the customer record never shows exactly what they bought. For this retailer, the requirement was simple to say and hard to find: capture the customer’s selections at the register, as part of the sale.

Why a separate POS system slows every project down

Most retailers run their register, website and customer records in different systems. Every new requirement means changing one system, then connecting it back to the others, and that is where months of project time go.

StoreConnect removes that step. Websites, ecommerce, POS and customer portals are all stored in Salesforce. According to our point-of-sale documentation, the POS runs in a browser on any device and shares the same product catalog, inventory, pricing, promotions and customer database as your online stores. Every in-store sale becomes a Salesforce Order record, with no separate POS database to reconcile.

Because the data model is already in place, our AI tools can focus on the part that is unique to each business. That’s why go-live is measured in days, not months.
